Colorado Springs Area School District Information Calhan
School District #RJ-1
BOUNDARIES: The district encompasses Calhan, a town 35 miles northeast
of Colorado Springs.
THIS SCHOOL YEAR: The district will implement a new reading and
literature program for pre-school through 12th-grade students. School
officials studied state standards, adapted them to meet the needs of
Calhan students and purchased new instructional materials.
"The biggest change is we'll require kids to read a passage and
then write about what they've read," said Calhan Superintendent Bob
Selle. "There will be more descriptive writings from readings that
they've done."
A master facility plan is in place to address the district's growth of
about 5 percent each year, Selle said. The district is working on a Pre
K-12 program.
