Colorado Springs School District 22 Bio's

Colorado Springs Area School District Information
Ellicott School District #22

BOUNDARIES: Located 15 miles east of Colorado Springs on Highway 94.

THIS SCHOOL YEAR: Three tornadoes tore through Ellicott on May 28, badly damaging the Ellicott Junior-Senior High Schools complex and destroying or damaging 53 homes.
The high school is still being repaired, so school officials may not know until mid-August whether students should register at the high school or elementary school, said Vicky Sanger, business manager.
"We're working very hard and expect everything to be in order by the time school begins," Sanger said. "We just don't know all the specifics yet and are asking parents to be patient with us."
Phone extensions and registration dates for the district may change at a later date. For updated information: (719) 683-2700.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL: Sept. 4

APPROVED SCHOOL HOLIDAYS:
Oct. 8 - Columbus Day

APPROVED CLASS SIZE: The district's school board has not set formal guidelines for class sizes. However, officials seek to limit elementary class sizes to 25 students. Middle and high school class sizes vary based on subject.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE SPEAKERS: English as a Second Language classes are available. Contact Walt Cooper, superintendent, at 683-2700, for information.

CHOICE PROCESS: There is one elementary, one middle school and one high school in the district so in-district choice is not an option. Students living outside the district may attend Ellicott schools if space is available.
Contact the principal of the school you wish to attend.

TRANSPORTATION POLICY: Busing is provided for students living within the district. Contact Teresa Burke, transportation director, at 683-2700, Ext. 216, for information.

SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS: Parents of students with special emotional, mental or physical needs should contact Walt Cooper, superintendent, at 683-2700 or Brian Printz, Pikes Peak Board of Cooperative Educational Services, at 570-7474.

BREAKFAST/LUNCH PROGRAM: Lunch prices are $1.35 for elementary students, $1.50 for middle school students and $1.75 for high school students. Breakfast is not available. Families who meet certain income guidelines may qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. Applications are available at the schools.

DAY CARE: None available.

REGISTRATION: Registration for new students begins Aug. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students should bring a birth certificate, immunization record, proof of address and, if available, previous transcripts. Phone extensions and registration dates for the district may change at a later date. For updated information: (719) 683-2700.
