Academy School District 20 prides itself on its outstanding schools and innovative programs for learning. The district consistently performs
better than state averages in assessments. Four of the district's schools
have earned the National Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence.
The district recently instituted Choice Schools whereby parents can choose
to attend any school on a space-available basis. Some of the choices
include an International Baccalaureate strand from kindergarten through
12th grade, an Edison Partnership School, a charter school, and a K-12
technology strand. District 20 also features an alternative high school.
The district possesses a reputation for attracting outstanding teachers and
for finding innovative ways to involve parents in their child's education.
Many people have stated that when planning to relocate to Colorado Springs,
they specifically looked for a residence in District 20 because friends and
family members had told them that Academy District has the best schools.
At the end of the 1997-98 academic year, there were 15,395 students
enrolled in District 20 schools. Three new schools opened in the fall of
1998, Academy Edison Elementary School, Academy International Elementary
School, and Pine Creek High School.
