Located in the southwest corner of Colorado Springs, District #12 is
nestled at the base of Cheyenne Mountain and the historic Broadmoor Hotel.
The district includes the Broadmoor area, Cheyenne Canyon, upper and lover
Skyway, Neal Ranch, Broadmoor Bluffs, and all of Cheyenne Mountain Ranch
west of Highway 115.
Currently six elementary schools, one junior high with grades 7-8 and one
high school, 9-12, enroll approximately 3,600 students. The district
recently constituted Cheyenne Mountain Charter Academy a K-8 charter school
which boasts exceptional performance with a traditional curricular focus.
Relatively low school enrollments, favorable pupil-teacher ratio and above
average teacher salaries assist in providing students a high quality
academic program. For years, standardized achievement test results, and
SAT and ACT scores have gained recognition as the highest in the Pikes Peak
Region and over ninety percent of its high school graduates enroll in post
secondary education. In 1997, the district recognized one of two
Presidential Scholars in the state and $1 million in scholarships was
offered to graduates. Curriculum and instructional programs are available
for advanced, gifted and high risk students. Students may participate in
visual and performing arts, technology, and foreign languages.
Nearly one million dollars is contributed to special education services,
preschool through twelfth grade. A vocational curriculum is provided to
students through Pikes Peak Community College. Interscholastic and
intramural sports programs are offered to students in all major sports
categories.
Because the district is recognized as the home to many Colorado Springs leaders, students and teachers benefit by unparalleled volunteerism and=
parental involvement. The Tradition of Excellence Foundation was formed in
1989 by local community members and strives to be a source of continued support for innovative projects and programs for the district. The
Cheyenne Adult Community School Continues to provide educational classes
for area residents in the evenings. The Broadmoor Hotel has formed a
partnership with the school district and provides extensive materials and
supplies, and financial support for teacher training through sponsorship of
an annual golf tournament and auction.
